Former catholic. The bible was nowhere to be found. Couple of jesus stories in CCD. We didn’t dwell on it.
All my extended family is catholic but the in-laws were nutty evangelicals. They truly believed the earth was 6000 years old, dinosaur bones were from dragons, the works. Nearly every gathering with them involved pointless bible debates that went nowhere for hours. Meanwhile the catholic family members never discussed religion but there'd be prayers at every meal and iconography everywhere. I guess it was taken for granted we were all on the same page, and figuring out doctrine was the priest's job.
Dragons, that is awesome! Im a little jealous.
We were taught god made the world in 6 days but also evolution took millions of years.
I remember asking my mom which was right. She said she thought maybe the word ‘day’ had a different meaning back then. Details.

I've heard that line too, and in hindsight it's kind of hilarious. They had other words for longer stretches of time, like month or year. They specifically chose day.
