The Franks weren't French, it's hilarious that you would think that a 4th century (301-400AD) Germanic tribe, that extended from the Netherlands to Belgium had anything to do with the French.

Also how far are you going back? Why not 40K years and say Cro-Magnon man had some mad battles against the neanderthals.

If you would like to get real technical we could talk about Aquitaine or toulouse or Galicia or Brittany or any of the other small fiefdoms and their respective histories, but the French are the Frank's and always have been.
