Where did you learn to knife fight? Your off hand is used for blocking. At least that's what they taught us in gym class.

block a knife blade not dodge the blade

I don't like bleeding.

Sadly, bleeding is part of it. As an old Sensei of mine said, "no one really wins a knife fight. You just lose less."

My old sensei said something similar:

If you get into a knife fight, one of you is going to the hospital, the other is going to the morgue.

You don't try to block the blade with your hand/arm, you post, grapple or block their arm with your arm, and even if you take the blade on your arm, it's better to take a blade to the arm than to the chest, if you need to take it somewhere.

That's why you wrap your leather jacket around your arm.

You don't guard from a knife with flesh. You guard with Cloth. A cloth is best because you're bound to have more of that on you than armor... So cloth with enough slack can give you enough... Power disarm a knife. Or shoot them.... That works.

That and, if I have to, I'd rather block a knife with my arm than with my chest.
