Yeah but they’ve always worked, because what else could they do. The “traditionalism” (i.e. the short period of opulence in the mid 20th century) to which most on here wish to return always accommodated, and even expected, women to work until they married. It was only once married they were expected (or forced in my country) to give up their jobs. So those that never married continued to work. Mainly because without anyone to support them they had little choice besides - what meagre welfare existed in those times wouldn’t have been sufficient to support even a modest lifestyle.
