I never trust people who film themselves doing nice things for views (giving homeless people money, etc). Part of giving is doing something without anyone else knowing (or you telling them) about it. Its a special feeling keeping secrets like these to yourself, knowing you're giving back.
That's one of the things modern Christian personalities just don't seem to teach anymore. I remember learning that philosophy at a very young age and it being one of the first things I disagreed about with others… "But if you did it stealthily you wouldn't set an example"
Which is funny because you would be setting the example with the people that you helped. And anyway, setting an example isn’t why you do it. We are supposed to be kind for the sake of it. It is it’s own purpose.
Yes, it'd also have the meaning of spurring gratitude and having the other person know you are being sincere by keeping the good deeds discrete
There was a phase in my life when I studied Buddhism for a while (never became one, just learned about the teachings), they say the same thing as well. I mean sure, there is validity in people knowing about your good deeds, and you don't have to go out of your way to hide your actions. But there is a magic attached to the deed for both the doer and the receiver when its kept anonymous. Its nice to see someone else who understands.
A lot of the eastern religions and philosophies offer wisdom. Not salvation, but certainly wisdom. And some of them are complete horseshit.
