I'm in the gentrification business, I will never understand why white people will buy a half million dollar house in the roughest parts of philadelphia. But it pays my bills. I can barely stomach going there to check on the renovations. Happy to be alive on my way out of the area.
I guess some are soo anti racist they prefer to live in the filthiest area with the most dangerous populations. I just don't get it. And I never will. A half million+ could be spend so much better.
Ori Feibush nods in agreement
I have no idea why, but I think you identified the point that the "jews" above are renovating the housing. It's not like they just buy a crackhouse and immediately turn around and sell it to a yuppie.
Yeah, they turn it into a nice product, Right the the center of the worst place to live. Location, Location, Location is the biggest rule in real estate, that for some reason does not apply to gentrification areas.
Well, I can't speak to your city, but a lot of these blighted neighborhoods are located in what otherwise would be desirable areas: access to transportation (airports), jobs, restaurants/shopping, city parks, etc. I recall some Obama cronies doing this -- expropriating a ghetto and building housing for urban trendsetters in Chicago. The pioneers have various affinities for the amenities and various reasons to care less about the drawbacks. Plus you can sell them on it and even if they feel ripped off later when they have kids, caveat emptor. Anyways, as I was alluding to with Obama, one thing that can happen is you displace the whole ghetto (ie blacks) and suddenly the place is nice to live again. If oftentimes a bit besieged by more ghetto.
