So the earliest famous Spanish explorers and conquistadors probably did not wear that helmet, but anyone stepping foot on hostile shore of Africa wanting to look tough would indeed wear a Morion.

A Jew merchant , trying to pretend to have any fighting skills, would indeed wear a Morion in the 1600s and late 1500s. It was in every country and popular in the 1600s.
