I've always had a personal rule. If I were to ever go and do something that was in a gray legal area, I would carry only minimal items, no phone, no ID and only enough cash to cover any expenses with maybe an emergency $20 deep in a pocket or a shoe.
Stealing isn't a legal gray area. It's immoral, unethical, AND illegal. Rioting usually is too.
Aye, but I wasn't talking about criminal acts. Just pointing out that I would start with this level at a grey area.
If you may be arrested you want to bring expensive jewelry. That way when you get out of jail you immediately have some belongings to sell. Or if you live in a corrupt area you could "lose" a few ounces of gold and not get arrested.
