I see your point. I am 100% on this side and I only now really watch alt-alt-alt tech like Poal.

But I do test out and go to places like Reddit and whatnot just to see the look/feel/emotional difference between the sites. Here is what I find all the time:

1) We are far too intense.

2) We hyperfocus on like 3 or 4 topics so it's the same thing over and over and over again.

3) We hyperfocus on truth so we only end up talking about negative things and drown out everything else.

4) We can be vicious linguistically. I support this 100% because I (and everyone here) understands what is being said, but it takes time to onboard.

And so forth.

Here is the thing about us, Poal and this whole thing: we aren't fun.

If we are to make it easy for people to fall into our sphere we have to start living our lives. We have to live those lives gloriously, we have to live them loudly and we have to live them prosperously.

Our value systems are entrenched and the control mechanisms are in place. There is no language or idea that is DISALLOWED. There is no language or idea THAT CANNOT BE CHALLENGED. We sometimes get into fights here, we hash it out and it's an absolutely amazing place to be. I love arguing with you guys, but it's hard because we all agree ... well, because reality can be understood and we have all been forced to understand it.

You aren't wrong, but, I wanted to provide a broader vision that we need to carry with us in order to bring our people back home.

Your actually making the, 'optics' argument? We don't compromise, we never have and now that things are about to pop off, we really don't need to. Those of any quality, will come to us. If you want soy boys that are gender binary something or rather, the reddit mothership awaits you.

I think you missed it. I am making the "fun" argument. You aren't fun.

You are 100% correct though. If we were to model this a little bit, we could say something like:

1) We keep the standards high, those that want to join will need to come here fully formed.

... or we could say something like:

2) We should lower our standards to let in more people that aren't fully formed and use the existing mechanisms complete the the training for the noobs so they are properly and fully trained to handle free thought, free speech and free association.

I am not saying either of those. I am saying, let's keep the standards high but raise the volume on the party. Let's have some fun. And, like with all communication, let's not forget relative context / relative guide posts. Meaning that if we ONLY focus on fun we loose quality. If we focus on the control points and complaining we loose the fun.

These are not mutually exclusive goals.

well i agree with here, too much trying to 'have fun' and not enough urgency, based info exchanging & activism to push the overton window. It's like a bunch of R/politics consooomers here. Dissappointed with this site, the new Voat sucks, miss the old Voat & am actively trying out other alternatives or going it alone. Very little intellectual debate or stimulating contributions besides a few of the same users.

1) We are far too intense.

This is what i'm talking about, it's not nearly intense or serious enough here IMO & you're trying to have more fun. Go to Plebbit.
