Well put. I do believe in an old time selective "collectivism" comprised of community(back when not transient) members and extended family, neighbors etc. Slackers were excluded. Still belong to a good rural electric co-op with excellent service and decent rates, although they did get $ to start from govt. 60 years ago. On the for-profit side though, I own part of a share (as many local customers do) of small phone company who is excellent ISP. My dad, his father and smarter farmers bought one share(the limit) back in 1950s when no big company would serve them.
