But make sure you don’t go very low carb or fat because that actually does affect your metabolism and thyroid etc

More details on this?

Also, if I'm not supposed to go low carb then what should I go low on?

Sorry bro, I was away from home without internet.

So, right now low carb or “keto” is very popular, and has gone mainstream. That alone gave me pause, like why is this being pushed so hard. Nothing gets pushed so hard unless “they” want to.

Anyway, back to the science; the problem with going too low carb is it will up your stress response. Your cortisol will be much higher and all the time.
Despite, what the “gurus” say these days, human bodies do in fact prefer glucose as fuel. Everything else is a back up fuel and used in emergency. Those keto carni clowns so actually believe this too because they mention gluconeogenesis in every sentence they spew out. The other problem that no one can deny is that low carb harms thyroid function. And lastly, a lot of people now wrongly think that metabolism is a myth, but it isn’t. And you can lower your metabolism by too little carbs (or protein or fat, for that matter).

All of the above problems with low carb are also for starving aka “intermittent fasting”.

So the point is that we need all the nutrients; macro and micro, to thrive.

Now, when it comes to weight loss, apparently the old timey faggots were right and calories matter. But as we know calories is not everything. I’m still researching this myself but the conclusion I’m coming to is that you either have to lower carbs or fat to lose weight. At the same time you don’t want to increase protein too much because it will have detrimental effects not just on kidneys but liver too because the excess has to be converted to glucose anyway. Apparently, one only needs 0.7 grams protein per pound. Which comes to 20% of your diet, I think. Unless you are in the bulking phase and lifting a lot lot, in which case you can go considerably higher.

There’s a school of thought that says low fat is more beneficial in weight loss. Some other people say moderate carbs and fat is way to go. Then there are people who preach not dieting at all and focusing on stress hormones and sleep, which will in effect make you lose weight.

Everyone agrees to stay away from junk and fast food.

Okay so this is my plan; this week I’m lowish carb. Next week, no diet per se because Easter obviously. The week after, I’m going low fat. Then I’ll see how I felt on both, then stick to the one that doesn’t make me feel like death. And of course upping my physical activity and outdoors shit since it’s spring finally. However, in the long run, I will be moderate carbs and fat.

Sorry for the long and unjointed response. I just dumped my raw unedited thoughts from what I have been looking at. This is my understanding so far, and my plan. You can do your own research and try to see beyond the charlatans.

Just don't extremely low carb. Stick to around 30g net carb per day, that should be plenty of veg and maybe a piece of bread or a little pasta or something like that.

Oh that's fine. I've tried to go full keto before and it was way too hard. Just made me feel like crap constantly and have zero motivation.

Nah dude, 30 is far too low. If you research deeply, even 100 is low. But I, myself, am planning to go 50 to lose weight this week, and start again two weeks later
