Rwandian sights story.
Fighting the blacks in Rwanda, they kept finding the rifles with the sights set to 1000 yards. They finally asked a prisoner about it, but it took a while because he didn't know what sights were. Eventually they figured out that they thought the range setting on the rifle was the power knob, so setting it to 10 makes it shoot harder.
If you don't know what sights are, there are LOTS more comfortable ways to hold rifles. If you don't know what sights are, the photo above makes sense. You can see where the rifle is pointed easier (point shooting) and holding it up and sideways like that makes sure that the brass goes above and behind you instead of potentially hitting you in the face or falling down into your baggy pants.
