I believe the gov wants it impossible to produce/maintain because it facilities the sharpening of one's mind, helps people focus.

It also appears to boost T levels.

Interesting, I smoke and have awkwardly high t levels, though it does stop me from eating enough for "gains", but for my size I am freakishly strong.

There is a reason superpower armies have included tobacco in their rations since it was discovered.

I saw the the association between males smoking going down, and males getting obese and effete going up, theory does seem to hold water. Unfortunately, the better support for the theory seems to be how smoking affects women (moar T = more osteoporosis and earlier menopause), but women shouldn't have been smoking anyhow.

TBH I wonder if smoking offset all the estrogen from beer consumption.

On the other hand, I have seen too many complete soylents who smoke like chimneys. Seems to me that there are probably other factors in play as the WW2 generation smoked like chimneys yet wasn't soylent.

Women didn’t smoke at all until Edward Bernays convinced them to with his “torches of freedom” photo of suffragettes. He’s also the man who convinced millions of Americans that bacon and eggs should be eaten for breakfast (Americans tended to eat porridge or similar prior to Bernays). He was Sigmund Freud’s nephew.
