I've built many guitars over the years. If you know what you're doing then they can be better than the $3000 PRS guitars. I always loved painting them.

Yeah fender strats from 60s and 70s are great but now its all low end shit made in Mexico or what have you.
Gotten into 7 string schecters myself lately.
Schecter is fucking primo, I nabbed a C-1 Plat a few years ago, couldn't be happier.
Im still kicking myself for not grabbing a 5 string Schecter bass that I found cheap in a pawn. That was a nice bass I should have grabbed up.
Two of the greatest basses I ever owned were cheapies. One was a Yamaha. I switched the pick-ups and wiring and it was magnificent. The other an Aria Pro, which I also switched out the pick-ups and wiring. It was my fav. The action was lower than any I've seen.
i had a carvin 5 string bass which i loved the sound of it but my dexterity went down big time compared to 4 string. I suspect schecter has a thinner neck profile though.

I own a squier strat that i paid $25 for in a pawn shop. Honestly I think its better quality than what passes for an american strat these days. Fender went dogshit for sure.
I have an old Squier that I put SRV pick-ups in and its a baaaad boy. It plays better than most high dollar guitfiddles. You can't beat those older Squiers. I wouldn't trade 1 old Squier for 3 new American strats.
Mines a hardtail so it sustains like crazy. The neck pickup has the perfect bell tone you look for in a strat. For $25 I'd buy 100 more. I even started playing my 50th anniversary american less because i just enjoy the squier more for its lack of refinement.
The Chinese just flooded Ebay with cheap knock-offs. They made a 59 strat road worn. Its so beautiful. lol They even made all Van Halen guitars and tghey look legit. I've been reading reviews on them and so far everyone says to rip the electronics, pots and pick-ups out. Change the trems and then you'll have a nice guitar. haha The body's are basswood. You could buy an authentic neck and parts and still be cheaper than buying a legit one. I'm gonna buy a couple just to amuse myself.
