I've noticed that. Moore's law hit the wall, I believe. All they do now is throw more cores on the die. Oh and include hidden microprocessors only three letter agencies know is there.

I think they try to squeeze as much as money from silicon based microprocessors before moving to the next big revolutionary technology.
