> if we're thinking of the same anecdote I'm not sure, but they have the same conclusion. this person from a western country working in Africa wanted to help so they set up one person with the ability to make bread. simple enough, no problem there. but when they made a few dozen loaves many ppl started coming and simply taking it, not understanding it had to be paid for. When asked the ppl said, "well you have so much and we NEED it, so you can share." clearly not understanding or appreciating the time it takes to pay for and gather materials, put energy into creating a product and then advertising and selling. they simply saw it as "you have more and I need so I'm justified". this is why that area is a shithole. no future planning, no understanding of how economies actually function or even an appreciation for someone's efforts to create a product.
