The hunger games has been very important to me since i first read the books and watched the movies when i was way too young to but did anyway..its what got me interesting in archery (67# 26" recurve instinctual, 40# target, took years to get this far) and worked perfectly with my dad, he taught me how to hunt and how to survive in the bush which is something none of my friends know and lol trying to take them hiking gets a "ew" response lol... so gonna go on a bit of a rant here sorry and it has nothin to do with the meme. To me THG has always been portrayed the opposite of reality. People on the left and progressives and stuff identify with Katniss and maybe even Suzanne wrote her a bit that way like some kinda anarchist/progressive freedom fighter but if you actually watch the hunger games it paints a way different picture. Katniss, her mum and prim struggle to make ends meet after Katniss' father dies in a mine explosion & i get the feeling the capitol was involved with that either directly or through basically taking and taking and taking so much that proper safety stuff wasn't working or available. They live in tightly controlled districts where freedom of expression and thought (free speech) gets you pretty much dead by "Peacekeepers". The capitol, full of degenerates and..well it basically looks like the rich parts of california 2bh, you know full of virtue signalling, inward focus and basically yeah a mix of instagram and los angeles in a way, sees the districts (fly over states) as uncultured slob slave workers who are less than human, if they even think about them at all. The capitol sacrifices children in a death match for entertainment (coming soon to a california near you oO) Katniss doesn't want to be famous or rich. She's happy with her family, providing for them and being involved in the community with barter and trade (see the prolly coming references to barter and trade outside the state as being evil or criminal) basically she is..well maybe not a conservative, even if in attitude alone but she definitely isn't progressive. She like many conservatives isn't exactly fighting against the evils of the world, but she's focused on her day to day stuff..work, staying alive etc. Then an unfortunate event happens, and without thinking for herself she immediately raises her hand and for all she knows, sacrifices herself for her sister Primrose-without question or hesitation. The loyalty and love of family is deff not a progressive notion that's basically understood now. She's pushed into this situation with another unwilling person who yeah, she grows to love through their experiences together. They're both introduced to the depravity of the capitol, one of the most telling parts is when they are offered more and more food and neither Katniss nor Peeta can eat any more, so they're offered a drink to make them puke so they can just keep shoving more food in.. Peeta notes many of the districts are starving and these people just want to shove more food into themselves. Gluttony. Through no fault or will of her own, Katniss is turned into a symbol by a group of radicals who want to use her for their own agenda which may or may not benefit the districts and she, Peeta and their family are put in danger by them. All she wants to do is return home to her family but, with manipulation by (((them))) at every turn she is pulled in deeper and deeper. She begins to understand the level of evil of the capitol and the wilful ignorance of the capitols population, the complete disdain for the districts, the "lesser beings" (see dehumanisation of anyone outside of progressive agenda) Through some miracle, and through a willingness to die, Peeta and Katniss survive their ordeal, to return home forever changed by it but fully aware that "there is no getting off this train" as haymitch, their "sponsor" points out and they are forced through a series of propaganda appearances to quell the districts & provide positive propo's for the capitol. The people in the districts know though, they know they're being lied to. The capitol citizens live in decadence and splendour but the districts outside of one and two they suffer greatly, and the capitol demonises, imprisons and executes anyone who talks against them (see Julian assange etc) Then, in an attempt to quell the unrest, the sadistic and power hungry leader president biden *cough* Snow announces a special hunger games as its the 75th anniversary of quashing the "rebellion" (see "insurrection") where the victors (those that are alive) of the previous hunger games will be forced to, like the 74th hunger games; fight to the death. These people have been through hell with the promise (lie) of being able to live in peace once they surrender to the capitols will and now they are being told, no, all of you but one must die. Katniss isn't aware, but behind the scenes the rebels are planning an overthrow and they are going to use her to get what they want. Some of the other tributes, the former "Victors" are in on it but some aren't. Katniss tells haymitch that no matter what, Peeta must survive.. that she doesn't care what the capitol does to her but Peeta must survive. Haymitch will break that promise because when their plan is set, katniss is taken from the arena and Peeta is left behind because the leader of the rebels wants to use her basically as a mascot to get what she wants, "president" Alma coin. Peeta is retaken by the capitol and tortured, psychologically and physically (see hollywood, education system & etc) to believe that katniss is evil and needs to be killed (see again, the dehumanising of anyone outside the progressive ideology and stuff) a whole buncha stuff happens and this comment is way too long already but basically Katniss goes from being used as a propo piece by Snow, to being used the same way by Coin and ironically, president snow cares more for Katniss than Coin does. Long story short the "good" guys unnecessarily murder a bunch of people and children in a psychological warfare operation to make everyone turn on the capitol when it was basically already going to fall already. Katniss is wise by now though, she knows she has been played. Her sister Prim, who she volunteered as tribute for was killed by the attack... her sister prim who had been training in a hospital, rushing forward to help wounded people. Katniss has come full circle, all her sacrifice has been for almost nothing and the new "good guys" are foaming at the mouth at the power they now have. Does katniss give up? or just submit to them and let them basically become the new capitol? No, she proves the quality of woman she is and when she is given the task of executing president snow, she prepares a nightlock pill (think cyanide) for snow but she takes aim at the totalitarian new ruler president Alma Coin and she strikes her down with a single arrow, before trying to approach snow and give him the pill, she's prevented from doing it because her "people" the rebels want their pound of flesh anyways and tear snow apart. Katniss is then imprisoned.. no one really knows what to do with her and she is done, she's beyond caring. She's sacrificed everything, given her heart and soul and she no longer cares what happens to her but she is freed by Heavensbee and allowed to return home. Home to her district. Home to the village of the victors, where just outside the bones of all of the people of her district are bleaching in the sun. some time after, Peeta, as damaged as he still is, returns home to. Katniss and peeta spend time together, their love never destroyed by the capitol only enhanced and although the brainwashing and psychological torture did affect Peeta a lot, with treatment he got better. Katniss and Peeta made love and had a baby, and a few years later had another baby.. they lived together, forever changed, forever damaged and watched on from afar of the hopeful return of peace to Panem, knowing it probably wouldn't last but clinging to the hope that good people, living free and speaking free can prevent the return of tyranny. Anyone watching the hunger games who thinks Katniss is a progressive nazi fighting blm worshipping lets have communism preaching girl is missing the bigger picture. Voat was district 13, forced underground, splintered... Poal is District 12 (sorry @AOU), cautiously treading water, sharing memes and news just waiting to be crushed by the newly installed tyrannical "captiol". Reddit is District one, not part of the elite, but their ideologues, their mouthpieces, the decadence of the elites washes off onto them & they are shiny happy people, distracted little sheeplettes. & @CalligraphFrantic thats called an anchor point :D irl even if her nose was in the way before she fires she'd turn slightly lol but remember its a movie and not real life and she's an actress not an archer :P & @GloryBeckons agree totally, but yeah movie and all blah but remember Katniss is portrayed as a really experienced instinctive shooter and she shoots both med and euro so both sides and thumbnock (best nock lol).. but still.. movie and hollywood! /rant blah
