People say "better times", but they really were compared to the shit now.
I read a post to this effect.
There was a picture on the internet of a child blowing out a candle for a birthday cake right next to an ashtray full of cigarettes and adults drinking beer in front of said child.
Everyone was all outraged "blah blah blah this is terrible awful blah blah blah, child will die of alcoholic athsma".
Then this guy chimed in, and basically said that the 80s were the last decade where people were free. Free of political correctness, free of societal tyranny, free to do and say whatever the fuck they wanted. He said in the 90s it started to go downhill, as 'save the children' and other measures started taking effect.
It clicked with me: it's what I've been yearning for. That's the life I want, and everything EVERYTHING is going against that. Online tyranny, outrage/cancel culture, 'save the children', worship science or else, wear a mask, don't smoke, don't vape, don't drink, wear a helmet.... I want to scream.
It is a feeling of being "jailed" or "confined".
Think about this: It really started around the time the 24 hour news channels began popping up. Prior to that it was just 1 or two hours of news and the stuff was fast and direct. Fear is the mind killer and 24 news likes to peddle fear and propaganda.
Makes sense. I can't think of a reason why anyone needs more than 15 minutes of news a day.
RUSSIA COLD WAR! AIDS PANDEMIC! MIDDLE EAST LEBANON IRAN, AND QUADAFFI TOO POOR ISRAEL.
Seems like the same shit to me.
