...so you are blind or xxxxx so must read shitty articles even about obvious stuff? I'm white, blond hair, blue - green eyes, and I see Chinese which are whiter than me or my white friends. Of course there are asians with darker skin, just as white people. And again search and watch videos where Japanese can't decide are some character white - westerner or not. Can you guess? Same is with age, in manga - anime are only three age, very small kids, old farts... and everyone else is same... Bur you obviously know better than Japanese. Asians just like caucasians don't have big, round, bug like eyes, which are most common in manga. Except eyes entire facial structure is wrong, not asian at all. In some sub styles characters are very caucasians.... without any trace of asian facial features.
Hair color doesn't mean anything in anime. How many races have purple, blue, or pink hair? The reason there are so many different hair colors in anime is because with that art style everyone has the same face. They need a wide range of hair colors to help tell the characters apart. Plus it just looks cool. It has nothing to do with race.
The large eyes are there in the art style for two reasons.
1) It's considered cute, especially in Japanese culture
2) The art style was originally inspired by Betty Boop
Considering that I actually have Japanese friends, speak Japanese, and have spent years studying Japanese culture and speaking with Japanese people I think I'm a bit more well versed in this than you. No offense intended, but you sound like a typical gaijin drawing a bunch of ignorant conclusions without much knowledge of the history of the art style or Japanese culture.
I don't know who these Japanese people are that you are seeing in youtube videos, but they must be mentally disabled because they don't represent the average Japanese person at all and they certainly aren't otaku.
If you think the facial structure isn't Asian just because they don't have round faces, that's also pretty ignorant. Round faces are less common in Japanese, which is a big part of why their women are so beautiful. I'm not saying that Japanese people with round faces don't exist, but it's way more rare than in other Asians. It's pretty obvious who's a westerner in anime. . Note the extremely strong jawline which most anime characters don't have. Japanese characters tend to have much sharper features, especially around the chin and jaw.
Well, we do not agree, but this little discussion are civilized without calling opponent nigger-faggot-hew etc. which is rare in this sad time. So there is my point of view. 1) true, Japanese love big eyes and "big" noses. His eyes sometime look smaller, pure anatomy also noses are smaller than caucasian... or appear to be smaller. btw. I read that in Japan in one moment are very popular plastic surgery, which defacto make it more caucasian. Pure fashionable stuff if you ask me. Also they have entire culture of cuteness even specific name for it. 2) Atom / Astro Boy manga which are probably most influential ( historically speaking ), are inspired by Disney, at last author say it. Of course that there are many influences, art is always mixing and upgrading the existing one. Honestly I don't know to many Japanese, I meet couple but this are just brief contacts. But on the other hand I'm artist. So I' trained in anatomy, and art history. I'm not expert in Japanese culture/art my knowledge is general, never feel desire to "specialize" some particular art-culture. Your example is ok. but consider that manga have many styles , all are heavily stylized, some are more realistic than other. Your example is more on realistic side, also they make this dude more "white" because of story. So they exaggerate some facial features to make it obviously white. But there is many examples from this style where whites are not so recognizable, joy must read manga to get this. True sometime they try to make some character obviously white, brown, black. But in general manga character don't have race, at least visible racial features. Sometime artists try to make character more asian from certain angles but result is often odd and not consistent. This lead to next stuff... who are people who can't decide race. Heh.... this was bunch of young people, mostly girls, to me this look as random average people on street, something you can see in every street survey regardless of topic or country. I guess that videos are edited, I mean they chose most "interesting" subjects, like journalist always do. But I don't believe that they intentionally are biased toward conclusions.
TL'DR as artist I'm more realistic, and even when do stylized stuff I don't go manga way. Sometime, just for fun and practice make something manga-like, just as emulate other styles. It's hard to me to explain ( especially on foreign language :D ), but when I draw-paint-sculpt manga I don't have any race in mind... just draw manga. I put one YT link .... make time mark... maybe this will be interesting or entertainment for you https://youtu.be/TovK0ir0ZdA?t=2520 this are realistic or semi realistic, but base is same when you make stylized characters or caricature. In manga-anime all features is melted.
