Well it's someone's fault for seeing them as poor and primitive and then trying to fix that.

Good point. Raccoons are extraordinarily well adapted to their environment. You dont give them freaking tanks anymore than you'd send Europeans to sub-Saharan Africa and wait for them to die from malaria within a median lifespan of 18 months (pre-quinine was BRUTAL).
