Depending on cost of rope, you may not have enough for $600. A guillotine is much cheaper in the long run and the only maintenance required is grease and sharpening. There's lots of people with a drill or impact hammer and if they have one of those, they probably have a saw with a blade.
There's lots of drawbacks with the rope solution, the biggest being it is the more expensive option in the long run.
How often should one sharpen the blade? Every use or when you get to 5-10 drops for decapitation?
That's a good question and one I've never thought about. I don't know. If it is falling far enough, it won't matter how sharp it is. I think you'd get a thousand before you might have to check the edge for nicks.
How sweet would it be if it is self sharpening?
I do know that guillotine operation is actually quite the skill. You gotta check your patient’s vertebrae. Drop it in between. Although they can chop bone, they were not meant to. Your lordship would be quite displeased with extraneous wear on the blade and prolonged beheadings.
That being said, we’re all beginners here. Check your edge, and sort the criminals. Save the pedos and such for a dull blade.
