It's gotten so much easier to have success building your own. I 'member the old days, not "good old days" but you had to figure out if you had RDRAM, SDRAM, and figure out your DIMMs and pin counts and voltages and speed compatibility all on your own.
Reminds of the early 286/386/486, SX, DX... with jumpers on the mobo to select CPU voltage/frequency.
First one I tinkered with was Pentium II... First one I built was Pentium 4. So not quite that old
I did a pentium 2 build when I was a kid, I loved those jumpers! Overclocking it until it blew up. I think I hit 350mhz before it quite on me.
