i adopted a adult cat once, was patting it a lot and it got pissed off and scratched the shit out of me - i let it keep scratching me until it stopped itself.
i think that was a turning point - got on pretty good after that and cuddled a lot. - but only when she initiated it.
don't have any pets now.
