That's neat, but I don't know that I would every have a practical need for it!

Good in a pinch. I have made one out of a half rotten tree stump, chainsaw file, and 2.5 pound baby sledge. There is also the Finnish log stove where you split the block into four, shave the inside down, dig a small hole, assemble the pieces in it, load with tinder in the center and let her rip.

Get it going then dump some weed from the backyard into the hole. Makes the meal so much more munchy. just kidding

He said the harder the wood the harder it is to drill out the hole. I have a recommendation. Do not drill in the center aka heartwood, it'll also allow you to make a shorter hole on the side. Not the sapwood mind you just away from the heartwood but still enough room to put a fry pan or pot on it without hanging over.

The Finnish log candle/stove (hooktube.com) is the solution for hardwood.

that's love giving your dog half your bacon. Neat trick. my state tree is the white birch so I could do that sure enough. Thing is getting a real knife that does break after a few hits to it.
