The wife and I have plans to make a 3 sided lean-to waaay back it the woods with Hemlock posts/beams and using this technique for the siding. I will most likely do the shingles for the roof with a shingle hewing axe and a seam cap with a V-cut Hemlock timber. The plan is to do a lean-to and then turn it into a cabin over time. Simple salt box roof with a 4x16' porch and use birch bark for vapor barrier and Conifer needles/moss for insulation. Do it old school, will be a fun project for the kids to be involved in as well.
