So I've always used spin reels. I primarily have been a Great Lakes fisherman, and those work great out there.

This year I've been doing a lot of inland lake and river fishing for bass and trout. I'd like to try a baitcaster, but never used one.

Anyone have any recommendations? I already have a nice Fenwick I can put it on.

I suppose I'm not totally against spending that type of money, but my thinking was not to blow the bank just to try this type of reel and see how I like it, but on the other hand there is an argument for if I'm going to do it may as well buy the good shit to start and not 100 now and 240 later.

By all means spend less and see if you like it. Hell buy used if you can find something. Just don't expect the world from a sub-$100 baitcaster. It's not going to be awful or unusable by any means. Just may leave something to be desired.
