If you haven't yet, watch some of the episodes of "The Woodrights Shop". many are on YT, the series aired on PBS for years. One of my favorites shows how to do the lay out for cutting threads for the screw of a wooden vise.
I used to watch that shit when I was in my 20's. The guy is good but he does the stuff that takes a lot of work. I like the make a deck and use your skill saw to trim the edge boards.
I love my power tools, but the theory behind what he does is solid.
Absolutely, he's trying to pass on old knowledge to protect it. I was impressed by a few shows. I remember one where he was using a foot powered lath for turning something. He made a bunch of cool shit to like a real Loom on one show. I worked in a knitting factory back then, great cash running and repairing the machines all night and I was high all the time in an empty shop.
