The Palouse is some of the most productive dryland (non-irrigated) wheat and lentil-growing ground in the world. Originally farmed with multi-team horse-drawn equipment, the area was difficult to work due to the rolling terrain. American farmers developed the modern self-leveling combines to be able to work on the slopes in the region.
Unfortunately, today, much of the highest quality non-GMO product grown in this region is shipped overseas to east Asia rather than being made more readily available in the US.
