A piece of equipment needed a socket replaced because of carbon tracking inside the socket. The new one is a little smaller in diameter, and the wire is 60 years old. I guess it doesn't look too bad, and it made the device work again.

I can never get the wire to lay as neat as the original

I knew you were fixing this equipment up for the purpose of having sex with it. Hornybird trying get laid by an old superheterodyne receiver. You like them well aged and with the dim bulb protection it seems. Just try not to get her heater current up too high or you'll make her tubes go cold.

Oh you...we're superhetting with a amplified tuned RF front end. Oooooooo signal is so hot right now.

That makes your SWR really peak I bet. Naugty bird...

Tried to trim your talons?

Serious note that does look nice.

Thank you. It can be a pain to get things back in proper order when you're working with ancient wire.

The hell is it?

That is the socket for a 6X4 vacuum rectifier in an audio generator. The original socket was poorly designed and was making mister unhappy smoke so it had to go.

Looks like a bird nest to me.

HEY!

..... you're a good bird...

no matter what boone says about you

I don't care what he says.

He'd be real mad if he could read that.

Whether or not it's neat won't matter after you put the cover back on. It's a secret to all.

That's really cool. I love how innovative some old tech was. Simple yet efficacious designs.

It doesn't do anything near what a modern device would, it just does the one thing - generates audio. But, it's easy to keep going.

Is that a lightbulb I see you're using as a resistor?

[–] 1 pt

Yes. A lot of this type of signal generator used a bulb as a PTC resistor in the oscillator circuit. **
