On the android devices I had, having automatic or adaptive brightness turned on would sometimes just go nuts. It would randomly go up or down, or some program would trigger it to go brighter than the sun mode. Never could fix it properly, just turned all the automatics off and left it at a happy medium. I'm sorry to say the auto-brightness on an Apple device works much better.
