Believe me, it's overrated. You were probably in college the last time you did that. Take it from me, your idea of camping now is more like staying at a BestWestern instead of a Marriott.
I tried that with my son not long ago. I bought all new stuff, slept in it once. Gave my son everything because I knew I'd never use that again.
(Ps) I recently purchased enough "camping" gear for emergencies with a huge bug out bag. But this is in case society degenerates to the point i cannot stay in my house. I pray like hell I never actually use any of it!
