How does ones hair 'defy gravity' when positively charged while touching a Van de Graaff machine?

We actually don’t know.

We can measure it, we can make mathematical models predicting it. But it so varies inexplicable how it actually works.

Electricity, which is much more understood, uses electrons. They follow enisteinian mechanics, meaning electrons can’t move faster than the speed of light.

Light is also well understood, using photons. Traveling at the speed of light.

It’s guessed that there are gravitons, but we can’t see them and they act instantaneously over vast distances, so they would travel faster than the speed of light. So most likely something else is causing “gravity” .

That’s it. That’s all we really know.

I think it is a relative mass thing. It is why the moon is gravitationaly locked to the earth but the earth is locked to the sun. If the moon had a greater mass it would not exist as it is currently observed. We exist at a point in time where the system is relatively stable. A dead insect doesn't fly. It is drawn to the center of the earths mass when it no longer has the energy to move.

It is why the energy requirements of fighting gravity differ depending on mass. You can't lift a rocket on insect wings. If you put an insect on a rocket it would have an imperceptible effect on the energy required to lift the rocket. You also need less energy to lift a rocket the further it is from the Earth.

Mass creates distortions in space time. Have you ever dropped a coin in those charity boxes where the coin rolls in a loop as it falls to the bottom? The distortions are like the hole in the bottom and bodies in space are the coin being pulled down. Because there is no friction in space the bodies slow imperceptibly and just keep circling for astronomical periods of time.

There are also interactions across massive bodies, imagine the coin could jump across to different charity boxes and loop around different holes before jumping back again.

That is my basic understanding, I am not a smart man but I believe Newton and Liebnitz were. Their explanations have lots of maff, aren't complete explanations but are apparently close enough to explain what we see happening.

particles want to coalesce and have this propensity for objects more instantaneously than light can informthem of the respective particle in question.

and i think some people beleive the universe has its own similar effect of increasing in size for some reason but that is neitherhereorthere
