My dog is just 6 YO now and should live to 12-15 and I am already thinking how incredibly hard that last goodbye is going to be.

If you lock up your girlfriend and dog in the trunk of a car for an hour... Lock them in the trunk of your car for an hour and see which one is happy to see you when you let them out!
