Thats how my neighbor got her cat too. Just showed up. Turned out to be a real charming little shit. Ive even let it in my house a few times. Her dog, somebody dumped off on the side of the road in a snowbank, middle of winter, with a litter of puppies. Turned out to be about the best dog ever. I hope whoever the heartless cocksucker is that did that has since died of ass cancer. Mamadog died last winter. I still get up in the morning and look out my kitchen window to see if shes out mousing in my field. My dog.... also unintentional. Out hunting in the mountains, full of wolves and lions, and this scrawny 6 monthish old 30lb pup comes running up to me and collapses on my feet crying. Shit. Lets go buddy, head back to the truck. Some assfag dumped him off in the mountains to die. Hes useless as fuck but hes got a great personality. Its disgusting how many people abandon animals around here.

Picked up my pup some years ago from the shelter. They said the police brought him in, confiscated from some POS family. $75 later and I had a new best friend. First time he saw the back yard he ran around doing the zoomies for a solid minute. Never saw him do zoomies again. Something I learned from him as well: a healthy labradork can run up to 35mph. He loves bike riding.

Labradork... dont know if that was a typo, or just sonething clever i never thought of. Ill remember that one. Grew up in a labradork family.

It fits their personality well.

My parents got a lab from a widow. Her husband kept him in a kennel and beat him. He was all fucked up. I didnt think hed ever be okay. He was scared of being pet or anything. Eventually he came around and was an awesome loving dog. Just took him a while to undstand that somebody might give him a hug instead of an asswhooping. I think a lot of his learning was by watching their german shorthair, who i thought of when you described the zoom. My parents basically did a month or so road trip house shopping, the gsp in the car the whole time. I wasnt there, but they said when they finally picked out their house, on 20 acres of mostly open field type land, heidi cut loose and went redlining all over the property until she collapsed, they were legitimately scared she was going to die right there from over exertion. Man, that dog was an athlete though. But she seemed to know when they found their place, and she freaked out at all the room to run.

Parents and I found a dog running around a store parking lot in town. We were worried he would get hit with how he was running around looking for "someone or something".

We took him home and put out a listing to see if he was someone's or a stray. (Back before that was easy on the internet, print ad in the local post).

Found his "owners". They had left him in a outdoor space with a low fence and little food/water while they were gone on vacation for a week. They took him back.. Then 2 weeks later called us and said they couldnt take care of him and were going to take him to the pound and asked if we wanted him. This was all because they just bought a purebred puppy and didnt want to have a "mut" around anymore.

Fuck them for being shitty people but we gave him the best home we could for a decade.

People fucking suck.

Most people fucking suck. If you cannot care for a Dog/Cat then you are useless in this society.

Good on you for taking the little one in. You are officially better than at least 98% of people on this planet.

I didnt really have a choice. What was i supposed to do, kick him away and say "sorry asshole, i dont need a dog"

Heda been wolf food in short order.

Exactly. Most of my furry friends / family have found me. There was never an option of "sorry, its not the right time for me". More like... Well, Come on in friend.

/edit

I have never regretted bringing someone in. It always hurts when they eventually pass but it is always worth it in the end knowning that you did your best for them and that they enjoyed their life. Their companionship is worth more than gold.

Glad your dog found you.
