I've been trying to get my family interested in this very thing. I have the space, except I have bears, fox and other predators that make this a little more difficult.
Highly accelerated lead makes predators easier.

Some of them can be trapped, but it's better to choose a more discriminating option when feasible so you dont trap pets by mistake.
My wife used to have a coworker who had about 4 chickens in her back yard. She got so many eggs that she gave dozens to us. They were the most delicious eggs I've ever tasted. Very different than store eggs - even free-range eggs from the store are tasteless compared to these. She did lose some to coyotes so you need to build a secure coop, although nothing will stop a bear.
High velocity heavy metal poisoning will stop everything from a chipmunk up to a PCP-fueled nog.
The previous owner of my house in the city had chickens and she told me she had a few niggers tried to steal them lololol. Chicken isn’t safe anywhere haha.
I don't have any bears myself, but I do have some fisher cats and some other weasels to worry about.
