Yes and it clearly runs against your "if anyone in the church isn't compromised, they are under a heavy thumb and unable to do anything." narrative, the guy is clearly telling it like it is, the church is made of people, there are bad elements and they need to be called out and they'll die and they'll be replaced by new generations of priests and that's how actual real change happens for the best or the worst

Now you can always dream of undoing the past 40 years in a 1h30 movie it's not going to happen, because that's not how it happens, it's going to take generations, plural and you and I aren't going to see the end of it
