They are still highly religious, just not in spiritual things. A friend of mine married an "athiest jew" and their kids go to temple, know hebrew, have all kinds of hebrew toys, know the religions stories about their oppression, etc. I think that the "athiest" thing is just a shield around christians.

I would say that communists are much more pious when it comes to their religion (pure evil) than 95% of Christians.
