Also with garage door openers, I don't need to run CAT wire or connect some wifi dongle or whatever to get an internet connection. Also, with a garage door opener, I have zero concerns about some paki or chink from the other side of the planet hacking my garage door and opening it remotely.
some paki or chink from the other side of the planet hacking my garage door and opening it remotely.
That's why I won't connect mine to an internet-enabled system beyond "Are you open or closed?"
I can go manually press the little remote dongle hanging on my keychain if it's open and I don't want it to be.
The same for lights, heater, a/c and pretty much anything else in ones home.
I used to have some lighting stuff I wrote exposed to the outside world, but - there's really no need for it. When I want to turn it on I'm most likely inside, and the automatics take care of it when I'm not.
