I helped a guy build something like this about a decade ago. It was a interesting project. I don't think he put any of it online and I don't have any of the old code/pics from it anymore. Shame.

From the post:

>Garage doors! You could get out of your vehicle and open and close them yourself, but that kinda sucks. It’s much preferable to have them raise and lower courtesy some mechanical contrivance, and even better if that is controlled via the web. [Juan Schiavoni] shows us how to achieve the latter with their latest project.

Garage doors! You could get out of your vehicle and open and close them yourself, but that kinda sucks.

Or you could get a garage door opener.

It’s much preferable to have them raise and lower courtesy some mechanical contrivance,

They come with remotes. Remotes are cheap for the most part unless you get one of those stupid "IdiOT" units.

and even better if that is controlled via the web

Or you could just take the door off your garage and wonder why your shit got stolen.

Also with garage door openers, I don't need to run CAT wire or connect some wifi dongle or whatever to get an internet connection. Also, with a garage door opener, I have zero concerns about some paki or chink from the other side of the planet hacking my garage door and opening it remotely.

some paki or chink from the other side of the planet hacking my garage door and opening it remotely.

That's why I won't connect mine to an internet-enabled system beyond "Are you open or closed?"

I can go manually press the little remote dongle hanging on my keychain if it's open and I don't want it to be.

The same for lights, heater, a/c and pretty much anything else in ones home.

Yeah and then the site with the codes gets hacked and you come home to an open empty garage, so convenient.
