I knew a guy once, that engineered numerous isolators, circulators and bias tees…brilliant, sales guys would say “nasa needs it to have (insert some radio requirement)” He’d close his eyes and look at the diagram in his head and say I can make it do that. Then tell the designers what todo. Then make it.

But he was a fucking asshole.

I loved working with those guys! The secret is to have enough goading asshole in yourself that they just listen and do what you discuss without bitching about it. Their assessment of the worthless cow-orkers in the firm was brutal, hilarious and spot on! Something to be said for being so competent no one can fuck with you - even if you're an asshole.
