I hope he is granted citizenship. The U.S. is the only country in the world that will tax its citizens on their income regardless of where they live, so if he decides to go home one day, he will still have to file and pay US taxes, and he can't renounce that citizenship until the IRS is convinced that he has paid them all that they think they should be getting.
