Because perjury is a provable lie. A provable lie isn't legally the same as a conviction. If I say "I have never met this man" and then they can show texts and video of us hanging out etc thats perjury. It's a provable lie. A conviction means the prosecution convinced the jury that the charges are justified. There is a distinct legal difference
