the derailment caused about $350,000 in damages to BNSF Railway and the Omaha Public Power District

Rather conservative estimate. I guess that the power was back before long, because cost of power loss goes up considerably in no time at all.

The teen has now been charged of criminal mischief over $5,000, KOLN reports.

It's a minor, but I've seen minors get harsher penalties.

But Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon said the boy's not in police custody.

Edit: he gets a slap on the wrist because LUCKILY he was unsuccessful. You knew that he intended to derail the train, you have evidence, but give him "mischief"
