I remember looking at the stats for Chicago years ago. 1/20 shooting lead to the arrest of a person. 1/6 murders lead to the arrest of a person. Doesn't need a big increase in murders in major cities to drag national figures down.

The truth is that the real rate at which “murders” (intentional homicides) are being solved is always far lower than what they’ll admit to.
Years ago I learned only 50% of murders are actually solved (murderer found and caught and punished). So now it’s got to be even lower.
Police have the highest chance of catching someone when the murderer and the victim are known to each other. In the case of random killings the solving rate drops precipitously.
And even though Police can get a lot of help from all of the security cameras these days, that doesn’t even help much due to difficulties securing footage (a lot of the cameras aren’t even saving the video) and people wearing masks.
So … no. It’s not half. I’m betting it’s far lower.
