Bigger question: who gets a vaccine for chicken pox? I thought you just get chicken pox, no big deal.
yeah that worries me ive never in my life heard of a chicken pox vaccine. when i was a kid that was normal kid stuff. i dont have any of my own and my niece hadnt had it by the time i last saw her but i hope to god my sister didnt go and vaxx her for that....
chicken pox vax is bullshit. i got the vac as a kid, then later got the pox from the other kids anyways, then as an adult it woke up as shingles and ruined a month of my life with the most intense face pain I've felt in my life.
Depending on how old your niece is she probably has had it. Like you, I just got chicken pox as a kid (at a pox party). These days if you don't get vaccinated you can't send your kid to school or daycare in Aus at least. It's fucking tyrannical.
I've just spent a week at home with my 3 year old who got hand, foot and mouth disease. Which to me seems fairly similar in severity to chicken pox as a kid. It's highly contagious but benign other than some blister like sores in hands, feet, mouth. This disease is rampant in childcare but no one is too concerned about it. If your kid had chicken pox though, it would be done sorry of fucking national emergency. Just more irrational fear.
My missus caught it too (I didn't). Not particularly pleasant for an adult, definitely worse than the toddler version.
