As I recall, there was a line delivered once or twice in the film that was something like, "Sometimes people use lies to tell the truth" which you can interpret to mean people use fiction to tell of the evils of the world around them.

What will be interesting is seeing the fake virus they make up in November right before the midterms and in 2024 before the next election. The timing in 2020 and the voting and public gathering restrictions while they created non existent fear amongst the populace is now (((their))) modus operandi.
