This is pretty obviously bullshit, I have a sneaking suspicion whatever is in this is meant to hurry their plans or cover their asses, entirely probable that they've engineered some sort of phage to target spike producing cells, they got the culling they wanted and the birth rate drop and sterility now to cover their tracks or finish the job with haste.
