So, the NCBI database the PCR tests are used against is built based on sample contributions derived from earlier tests. Presumably, they had parts of the genome for earlier tests that were then used to build up sequences for later tests. Am I understanding this correctly? How could this possibly be valid? Wouldn't the sequence now have all sorts of junk data in it? How do we know the original sequences where correct to begin with?

The original sequences are from influenza and Corona.
