It's a scam, like when you return a defective electronic at Frys. In both cases, you think you are seeking compensation, but in reality, you unknowingly are their guinea pig for testing out their merchandise and divulging your results to them.

In my opinion, it is the perfect loophole for skirting ethical concerns with testing and not enough people seem to realize it, especially when they advertise the shit out of a product and then 6 months later tell you that you may have a claim.
