Officially (en.wikipedia.org) DB Cooper hijacked a Northwest Airlines Boeing 727 aircraft Nov. 24, 1971 by telling the crew he had a bomb on board, the plane landed in Seattle WA where the other passengers disembarked, he demanded and was supplied with $200,000 and a parachute.
Where after the aircraft took off again he allegedly parachuted out clutching the bag of money, neither he not the cash has ever been found .. the entire affair has been widely decried as fake see the links above, I remember the case well and mentally decried the whole thing as bs from the word go.
